Has anyone built a two stroke with two EL84s? I have a feeling this would sound awesome with the existing tone circuit. I wish I knew more about how to approach a build like that.

A friend of mine is a great guitar builder and he wants to start building amps to match his guitars. a two stroke with EL84’s might just be the perfect match.

    Thoughts?

I’ve not seen a Class A, dual, single-ended version with EL-84s, that would be around 10 watts?, You could build it class AB (push/pull) and get 15-18 watts. That would be similar to building an AC-15 or a Matchless Spitfire, which is a great amp, cleaner than a Two Stroke with that EL-84 chime.

I think I would like it at 15-18 watts. I wouldn’t be able to just drop in the EL84’s though, I imagine other amp components would have to change as well right?

oh yes, the circuits are different, but EL-84s wont drop into a stock Two Stoke anyway.

I have a yellow jacket with an EL84. i’m going to give that a try. I’ve checked out the spitfire you mentioned and they definately sound way different than 6V6 and 6L6 amps.

    Here is a link: http://www.aikenamps.com/SingleEnded.htm
It explains some of the differences between a single-ended and a push-pull output stage. For more indepth look at the differences, check out Merlin Blencowe’s pages at http://www.valvewizard.co.uk/se.html and http://www.valvewizard.co.uk/pp.html
